Ultimate Ironman Guide

Inventory management, death storage, and strategies for the bankless challenge

No Bank, No Problem

Ultimate Ironman is the most challenging mode in OSRS. Without access to a bank, you must carefully manage your 28 inventory slots and use creative storage solutions.

UIM-Specific Strategies

Storage Solutions

Looting Bag (Essential)

  • - Drops at 1/3 from level 50+ wilderness monsters (no pity threshold)
  • - Guaranteed: 10 slayer points, 1 LMS point, or 150k at the Wilderness Agility Course dispenser
  • - Stores 28 additional items; fill it only in the Wilderness (Ferox Enclave counts) or PvP-world hotspots
  • - UIM retrieval: die and collect from your pile, or destroy the bag in a PvP area within the Wilderness and pick everything up
  • - Never destroy it anywhere else - including Ferox Enclave - or the contents are deleted

Item Retrieval Services (Deathbanks)

  • - Hespori: 25k fee - the go-to UIM deathbank once unlocked
  • - Zulrah: free for UIM, items held indefinitely until claimed
  • - Vorkath: 100k fee
  • - Theatre of Blood: 100k fee (free on Entry Mode)
  • - Volcanic Mine: 150 numulite - the most accessible early option
  • - A second unsafe death before claiming wipes the deathbank permanently

Other Storage Options

  • - STASH units for clue items (build early)
  • - POH costume room (armour case, magic wardrobe, cape rack)
  • - Nightmare Zone coffer (GP storage)
  • - Stackable containers: herb sack, seed box, gem bag, coal bag, plank sack
  • - No seed vault - UIM cannot use it at all

Inventory Management Tips

  • 1.
Plan Ahead - Before any activity, plan what items you need and what you can drop or store. Impulsive decisions lead to lost items.
  • 2.
Prioritize Multitasking Items - Items like graceful, construction supplies, and teleports that serve multiple purposes.
  • 3.
Quest Efficiently - Complete quest chains together to minimize bank trips and maximize inventory usage.
  • 4.
Use Noted Items Wisely - Shops that buy/sell noted items are valuable for converting stackable resources.
  • 5.
Build STASH Units Early - Every clue item stored is an inventory slot saved for future clue scrolls.

UIM Early Game Priorities

First Week Goals

  • 1. Get looting bag from wilderness
  • 2. Complete Priest in Peril for morytania
  • 3. Build basic POH (portal, costume room)
  • 4. Unlock fairy rings
  • 5. Start building STASH units

Essential Items to Keep

  • - Graceful outfit (always wear)
  • - Dramen staff (fairy rings)
  • - Teleport jewelry/runes
  • - Construction supplies
  • - Looting bags (2-3 minimum)

Death Mechanics for UIM

Understanding death mechanics is crucial for UIM. There are three separate systems - truly safe deaths, item retrieval services, and ground death piles - and mixing them up deletes gear.

Truly Safe Deaths (Items Kept)

NMZ, Pest Control, Fight Cave, Chambers of Xeric, Castle Wars, LMS - you respawn with everything you brought in

Item Retrieval Services (Fee to Reclaim)

Zulrah (free for UIM), ToB (free on Entry Mode), Hespori (25k), Vorkath (100k), Volcanic Mine (150 numulite). Items are held until claimed - but a second unsafe death wipes the deathbank permanently

Everywhere Else: Ground Death Piles

Items drop where you died and despawn after 1 hour; the timer pauses while logged out. Protect Item does not work for UIM, and in the Wilderness most items convert to coins (dropped for your killer if a player got you)

Warning

Dying inside the Gauntlet or Corrupted Gauntlet deletes the items it stored for you on entry. Always verify death mechanics before attempting new content - they change with updates.
