Slayer is where an ironman's gear comes from. The wiki's Ironman Guide puts it bluntly: completing Slayer tasks is the only way an iron can get or upgrade the abyssal whip, dragon boots, trident of the seas, occult necklace and dragon hunter lance, and high-level tasks are where your alching money comes from. Every point you spend on a block, a skip or an unlock changes how fast you get there.
This guide follows the OSRS Wiki's Ironman Guide for Slayer, the Slayer training page, Slayer Rewards and each master's task list, checked as of October 2026. That date matters more than usual: since August 2025 every master keeps a separate block list with its own price, and Wyrmscraig added a tenth master, Mortimer, in July 2026. Advice written before then is out of date.
The short version
- Duradel is your main master, and Konar gets every 10th task for her bigger point payout. That is the wiki's Ironman Guide recommendation.
- Blocks and skips before perks. Block high-weight tasks with nothing an iron needs, at the master you actually use.
- Then Bigger and Badder (50), the Slayer helmet (400) and Ring Bling (150). Broader Fletching (300) early if you range.
- Don't cannon. The wiki says steel cannonballs cost too much time for most iron Slayer. Burst the tasks whose drops pay for the runes.
The ironman block list
Blocking removes a task from that master's list for good. Since the Summer Sweep Up Slayer update on 27 August 2025, each master has its own block list and price. Turael, Aya and Spria are the only masters who share one. A block you bought at Nieve does nothing at Duradel, so build the list at the master you will actually use.
| Master | Block cost | Slots |
|---|
| Turael / Aya / Spria (shared list) | 40 | 7 |
| Mazchna / Achtryn | 50 | 7 |
| Vannaka | 60 | 7 |
| Chaeldar | 70 | 7 |
| Konar quo Maten | 80 | 7 |
| Nieve / Steve | 90 | 7 |
| Duradel / Kuradal | 100 | 7 |
| Krystilia | 100 | 7 |
| Mortimer | 120 | 2 |
You earn one block slot per 50 quest points, so six slots at 300 quest points. The seventh needs the elite Lumbridge & Draynor Diary, which needs a quest cape. Removing a block later is allowed, but the points are not refunded. The View List option on the Slayer Rewards task tab shows each master's full list and lets you block straight from it.
The wiki's rule for choosing: block the bad tasks with the highest weight, because those are the ones that would otherwise burn through your skip points. Here is Duradel's list filtered through the Ironman Guide's task-by-task verdicts.
Duradel block list (your endgame main)
| Block | Weight | Ironman reason | Unblock when |
|---|
| Metal dragons | 14 | Highest weight on his list. Needs a stab weapon, and the loot is poor without a dragon hunter lance. The Ironman Guide says to block it. | Rarely |
| Abyssal demons | 12 | Poor drops and a long task with melee; bursting them is very expensive. | Don't block until you have the whips you want for a tentacle, and any Abyssal Sire loot |
| Hellhounds | 10 | No drops unless you kill Cerberus. | At 91 Slayer, when you are ready to farm Cerberus for boot crystals |
| Kalphite | 9 | No notable drops and mediocre XP without a cannon. The Ironman Guide makes this an early priority. | Only if you want Kalphite Queen supplies |
| Greater demons | 9 | Poor drops unless you kill K'ril Tsutsaroth or tormented demons. | Once you can kill tormented demons for synapses |
| Suqah | 8 | No notable drops; only good XP with a cannon. The Ironman Guide makes this an early priority. | Never |
| Black demons | 8 | Long task, poor XP and drops. | After Monkey Madness II, if you want zenytes from demonic gorillas |
| Drakes | 8 | Long task, poor drops for their level. | When you want their uniques |
| Wyrms | 8 | Mediocre XP, but one of two sources of the dragon harpoon. | With 60 Sailing for lava strykewyrms, or once Fallen From Grace (62 Sailing) lets you cannon wyrms in Wyrmscraig Cavern |
That is nine candidates for seven slots. A fresh Duradel iron would usually start with metal dragons, hellhounds, kalphite, suqah, greater demons, black demons and drakes, then swap in abyssal demons once the whips are done and swap out hellhounds, black demons or greater demons as each boss alternative becomes worth farming.
Fossil Island wyverns (weight 7) get their own block: Stop the Wyvern costs 500 points, does not use a slot and can be toggled. The Ironman Guide's verdict is to block them that way once you can afford it.
The same tasks at Nieve and Konar
If you are not at Duradel yet, or you want to block a few things at Konar for your milestone tasks, the weights shift:
| Task | Duradel | Nieve / Steve | Konar |
|---|
| Metal dragons | 14 | 12 | 15 |
| Abyssal demons | 12 | 9 | 9 |
| Hellhounds | 10 | 8 | 8 |
| Kalphite | 9 | 9 | 9 |
| Greater demons | 9 | 7 | 7 |
| Black demons | 8 | 9 | 9 |
| Suqah | 8 | 8 | Not assigned |
| Drakes | 8 | 7 | 10 |
| Wyrms | 8 | 7 | 10 |
| Fire giants | 7 | 9 | 9 |
| Trolls | 6 | 6 | 6 |
Nieve's list also adds brine rats (3), scabarites (4), turoth (3) and custodian stalkers (8), none of which Duradel assigns. Konar assigns drakes and wyrms more often and in bigger numbers than anyone else. The Slayer training page's example block list for the Nieve, Konar and Duradel group leads with wyrms, drakes, trolls and suqah.
While you are still point boosting, the cheap blocks are at Turael: 40 points each, shared with Aya and Spria. The wiki's boosting advice is to block tasks there that are slow or tedious. For Mazchna it names killerwatts, mogres, shades and wall beasts as the ones to consider blocking. Suqah, hellhounds and most of the Duradel blocks can't be bought at Turael, because he doesn't assign them.
Krystilia block list (Wilderness)
The wiki's Krystilia strategy page says to block spiritual creatures and bloodveld (both only in the Wilderness God Wars Dungeon and extremely slow) and to block aviansie or simply never unlock them. Black demons are a block too: long, common and mediocre XP. Greater demons, green dragons, fire giants, revenants, lava dragons, ice warriors, ents and magic axes are "block or complete": revenants and lava dragons have good loot if you want it. Once the first three are gone, the page recommends finishing rather than skipping, because skips cut into the points that make Wilderness Slayer worth it.
The skip list
Skipping costs 30 points at every master except Mortimer, who charges 100. The other way to skip is to take a replacement task from Turael, which resets your streak (more on that below). These are the tasks the Ironman Guide says to skip rather than spend a block on:
| Skip | Weight at Duradel | Why |
|---|
| Spiritual creatures | 7 | Not worth doing after you have dragon boots |
| Fire giants | 7 | Rather poor drops |
| Trolls | 6 | Only ice trolls on Jatizso have decent drops, and getting there takes a while |
| Elves | 4 | Relatively high Defence; only worth it if points are short |
| Waterfiends | 2 | Very slow without a good crush weapon |
| Cave horrors | 4 | Do them until you have a black mask, then skip |
| Cave kraken | 9 | Do them until you have the trident and kraken tentacle, then block |
Aberrant spectres, kurask, bloodveld, skeletal wyverns, ankou and mutated zygomites are marked do or skip: do them when you want their herbs or supplies, skip them when your points allow. The training page also advises keeping enough points in reserve to cancel several bad tasks in a row.
Tasks to keep: what an ironman needs from them
These are the tasks the wiki's Ironman Guide says to do, with the reason that matters for an account without the Grand Exchange.
| Task | Weight at Duradel | Why an ironman keeps it |
|---|
| Black dragons | 9 | Baby black dragons in Taverley Dungeon are a very fast task. Bank the babydragon bones. |
| Dagannoth | 9 | Herb seeds and ensouled heads; Dagannoth Kings on task for the rings and the dragon axe |
| Nechryael | 9 | Lots of herb seeds and money, rune boots, and greater nechryael are one of the best burst tasks |
| Smoke devils | 9 | The occult necklace, and the best barrage XP |
| Cave kraken | 9 | Trident of the seas and kraken tentacle |
| Dark beasts | 11 | A fast task when unextended |
| Araxytes | 10 | Aranea boots at 1/800 from the level 146 variant on task, and Araxxor |
| Gargoyles | 8 | Coins and alchables; the Grotesque Guardians count |
| Warped creatures | 8 | Good money and supplies (needs the Warped Reality unlock) |
| Aberrant spectres | 7 | Herbs and herb seeds |
| Dust devils | 5 | The alchables cover most of the runes when you burst them |
| Aquanites | 5 | The aquanite tendon for the aquanite hopper (needs 73 Sailing) |
| Frost dragons | 5 | Dragon metal sheets and dragon nails for Sailing (needs 87 Sailing) |
| Blue dragons | 4 | Dragon bones for Prayer, or Vorkath once you have a dragon hunter weapon |
| Kurask | 4 | Leaf-bladed battleaxe and good noted supplies |
Hydras are the one Konar task to always keep: Konar and Mortimer are the only masters who assign them, and the Alchemical Hydra is where the dragon hunter lance comes from.
Which Slayer master, and when
| Master | Requirement | Points per task | Ironman role |
|---|
| Turael / Aya, Spria | None (Spria: A Porcine of Interest) | 0 | Point boosting, and Turael replaces other masters' tasks |
| Mazchna / Achtryn | 20 combat, Priest in Peril | 6 | A boosting alternative to Turael |
| Vannaka | 40 combat | 8 | Early 10th tasks |
| Chaeldar | 70 combat, Lost City | 10 | Mid-level 10th tasks |
| Konar quo Maten | 75 combat | 18 (20 with the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary) | Every milestone task; brimstone keys; hydras |
| Nieve / Steve | 85 combat | 12 (15 with the elite Western Provinces Diary) | Your main until Duradel |
| Duradel / Kuradal | 100 combat, 50 Slayer, Shilo Village | 15 | Endgame main |
| Mortimer | 100 combat, 70 Slayer, part of Fallen From Grace | 0 (5 to 40 with the points modifier) | Superior and imbued heart specialist |
| Krystilia | None, but not at level 1 Slayer | 25 | Wilderness only, separate streak |
Steve replaces Nieve after Monkey Madness II, Kuradal replaces Duradel and Aya replaces Turael after While Guthix Sleeps, and Achtryn stands in for Mazchna during it. A 99 Slayer cape bypasses the combat requirements. Once you have 67 Magic, Astral Contact on the Lunar spellbook gets tasks from any master without walking to them; Konar has to be spoken to in person once before she appears in it.
Starting out: Turael, Spria and point boosting
The Natural history quiz in Varrock Museum gives 1,000 Slayer XP with no requirements, which is level 9. A Porcine of Interest adds another 1,000 XP and a one-off 30 Slayer points, and unlocks Spria in Draynor Village.
Points only start from your fifth completed task in a row. The wiki's Ironman Guide says to begin by boosting points: take tasks from Turael, who pays no points but gives very easy, fast tasks, and do every 10th task with Konar or the highest master you can use. The aim is to buy your first blocks while keeping some points back for skips. Spria has Turael's list plus sourhogs, but only Turael can swap out another master's task.
Mazchna is the wiki's alternative booster, now that he gives 6 points a task (up from 2 before August 2025). Its worked example: 49 Mazchna tasks and a 50th from Konar earns 660 points per 50-task streak, with Mazchna tasks taking a few minutes each.

Add a light source and some food if you want it. Skip heavy armour: you run a lot and Turael's monsters do little damage.
Turael skipping is the other use for him. When a higher master gives you a task you don't want, Turael will replace it with one of his own, as long as it is not a task he also assigns. It costs no points but resets your streak to zero. The Ironman Guide says this is usually better than burning points on skips when you are fishing for one specific task such as hydras or smoke devils, but don't do it when you are close to a big milestone.
Konar quo Maten and brimstone keys
Konar gives 18 points a task, or 20 after the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary: more than Duradel's 15, and the biggest milestone bonuses outside the Wilderness. The catch is that she also names the location, and kills elsewhere don't count. The Ironman Guide's advice on her tasks: only do ankou in the Catacombs of Kourend, only do dust devils where you can barrage them in multicombat, and only do red dragons in the Myths' Guild Dungeon, or in Brimhaven Dungeon with the elite Karamja Diary.
Every monster you kill on a Konar task can drop a brimstone key. The chance rises with combat level, from 1/100 at level 100 to 1/50 at level 350 and above. Monsters with a Slayer level requirement get a 20% boost, and since May 2024 a superior on a Konar task always drops one. The brimstone chest next to her is good ironman loot: noted runite ore, magic logs, coal, iron ore, gold ore, steel bars and uncut diamonds and rubies, dragon dart tips and arrowtips, magic, palm, celastrus, dragonfruit and redwood seeds, torstol, snapdragon and ranarr seeds, pure essence, and a 1/20 chance of noted raw fish. On top of that there is a 1/200 broken dragon hasta, which Otto Godblessed repairs for free, and a 1/1,000 chance at each of the five dusk mystic pieces.
Endgame: Duradel or Nieve?
Duradel. The Ironman Guide says he is generally the best master to use, and the training page calls him the best for the fastest experience, while allowing that some players prefer Nieve's (or Steve's) task weighting. The differences that matter:
- Points: 15 per task at Duradel, 12 at Nieve until you finish the elite Western Provinces Diary, which brings her up to 15.
- Task list: Duradel doesn't assign brine rats, turoth, scabarites or custodian stalkers, and assigns slightly larger task amounts. He does assign waterfiends.
- Boss tasks: weighted 12 at Duradel against 8 at Nieve, Konar and Krystilia.
- Access: Nieve needs 85 combat and a Slayer ring teleports you straight to her. Duradel needs 100 combat, 50 Slayer and Shilo Village; Karamja gloves 4 teleport you next to him.
Nieve is the master to use between 85 and 100 combat. If you want the antler guard, note that custodian stalkers come from Nieve, Chaeldar and Mortimer, not Duradel.
Mortimer: a specialist, not a main
Mortimer, added with Wyrmscraig on 29 July 2026, is now the highest-level master: 100 combat, 70 Slayer and part of Fallen From Grace, which itself needs 62 Sailing. He only assigns monsters that have a superior variant, lets you choose from two tasks (three after 50 completions with him), and attaches a modifier to each: points, task size, clue rate, superior unique rate or Slayer XP.
For an iron the costs are real. He gives no points by default, skips cost 100, blocks cost 120 with only two slots, Turael cannot replace his tasks, and his streak doesn't count towards your milestones elsewhere. He also doesn't raise the 1/200 superior spawn rate; his superior modifier only improves the chance of hitting the unique table once a superior has spawned. Keep Duradel as your main and treat Mortimer as an imbued heart and eternal gem detour. The Wyrmscraig ironman guide covers him in detail.
Points per task and streak bonuses
| Master | Every task | Every 10th | Every 50th |
|---|
| Mazchna / Achtryn | 6 | 30 | 90 |
| Vannaka | 8 | 40 | 120 |
| Chaeldar | 10 | 50 | 150 |
| Nieve / Steve | 12 (15) | 60 (75) | 180 (225) |
| Duradel / Kuradal | 15 | 75 | 225 |
| Konar quo Maten | 18 (20) | 90 (100) | 270 (300) |
| Krystilia | 25 | 125 | 375 |
Bracketed values are with the elite Western Provinces Diary for Nieve and the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary for Konar. The 100th, 250th and 1,000th tasks pay 25, 35 and 50 times the base: at Konar that is 450, 630 and 900 points, and at Duradel 375, 525 and 750.
Three rules to remember. Turael and Spria give no points. Krystilia keeps a separate Wilderness streak, so her tasks can't be your milestones, and you need five of hers before she pays. Mortimer's tasks don't count towards anyone else's streak and get no milestone bonus.
Two bracelets control task length, and you only need to wear them for the killing blow. An expeditious bracelet (an opal bracelet with Lvl-1 Enchant) gives a 25% chance for a kill to count twice; wear it on tasks you want over with. A bracelet of slaughter (a topaz bracelet with Lvl-3 Enchant) gives a 25% chance for a kill not to count; wear it on burst tasks you want to stretch.
Slayer reward unlocks: the ironman order
The wiki's Ironman Guide, in short: prioritise blocking and skipping poor tasks over perks and extensions; unlock superior Slayer monsters, the Slayer helmet and Slayer ring crafting first; and if you use Ranged often, consider Broader Fletching early. Costs below are from the Slayer Rewards page as of October 2026, after the August 2025 price cuts.
| Order | Unlock | Cost | What it does for an iron |
|---|
| 1 | Blocks at your main master | 100 each at Duradel | Removes your worst high-weight tasks for good |
| 2 | Bigger and Badder | 50 | Turns on superiors: imbued heart, eternal gem, three drop rolls, guaranteed brimstone keys at Konar. Free to toggle off. |
| 3 | Malevolent Masquerade | 400 | Lets you assemble the Slayer helmet at 55 Crafting |
| 4 | Ring Bling | 150 | Craft your own Slayer rings at 75 Crafting from an enchanted gem and a gold bar. Rings cost 75 points each otherwise. |
| 5 | Broader Fletching | 300 | Broad arrows at 52 Fletching, broad bolts at 55, amethyst broad bolts at 76 |
| 6 | Extensions on burst tasks | 100 each | More of the tasks that pay for themselves (see below) |
| 7 | Stop the Wyvern | 500 | Blocks Fossil Island wyverns without using a slot |
| 8 | Task unlocks for iron drops | 60 to 80 | Reptile Got Ripped (75) for lizardman shamans, Basilocked (80) for basilisk knights, Warped Reality (60), Lured In (80) for aquanites |
| 9 | Gargoyle Smasher | 120 | The only killing perk the training page recommends, if you do gargoyles |
| 10 | Like a Boss | 200 | Boss tasks (see below) |
| 11 | Task Storage | 500 | Store one task and swap it in later; since August 2025 it holds Wilderness tasks too |
Broader Fletching is worth more to an iron than to a main. The wiki notes that fletching broad bolts is a common ironman Fletching method, because unfinished broad bolts are sold in bulk by every Slayer master for coins, and you add your own feathers for 3 XP a bolt. The bolts themselves are what kill turoth and kurask.
Buy these with something other than Slayer points
- Herb sack: 750 Slayer points, or 250 Tithe Farm points from Farmer Gricoller. It needs 58 Herblore and holds 30 of each grimy herb. Since August 2025 some Slayer monsters that used to drop one or two noted herbs drop them unnoted so the sack can pick them up.
- Rune pouch: 750 Slayer points, or 150 telekinetic, 150 graveyard, 1,500 enchantment and 200 alchemist points at the Mage Training Arena, or a rune pouch note for 75 points from Justine at Last Man Standing. You can only own one. Our Magic guide covers the MTA route.
- Looting bag: 10 Slayer points, only useful for Wilderness tasks.
Leave these locked
| Unlock | Cost | Why not |
|---|
| Hot Stuff (TzHaar) | 100 | The Ironman Guide says do not unlock: no drops except Tokkul |
| Actual Vampyre Slayer | 80 | The Ironman Guide says do not unlock. Since 30 June 2026 venators (74 Slayer, The Blood Moon Rises) count for the task and drop blood shards and dragon arrowtips and dart tips, so buy it only if you want those. |
| Seeing Red | 50 | Only after you have a dragon hunter lance |
| Watch the Birdie | 80 | Only if you are killing Kree'arra for Armadyl armour |
| Wings Spread | 80 | Gryphons are a cannon XP task; the training page says don't unlock them for profit |
| Duly Noted, Double Trouble | 200, 500 | Noted mithril bars from mithril dragons, and Dusk and Dawn counting as two kills; niche for the price |
| Cosmetics | 200 to 1,000 | Helmet recolours. Twisted Vision and Oath Breaker dropped to 200 on 22 July 2026. |
Extensions worth taking
The Ironman Guide marks which of its recommended tasks to extend. An extension raises the amount at every master that assigns the task.
| Extension | Cost | Task size | Verdict |
|---|
| Nechs Please (nechryael) | 100 | 200 to 250 | Extend: greater nechryael are a top burst task |
| To Dust You Shall Return (dust devils) | 100 | 200 to 250 | Extend |
| More eyes than sense (araxytes) | 150 | 200 to 250 | The training page's own example of a task worth extending |
| Need More Darkness, Fire & Darkness, Ankou Very Much | 100, 50, 100 | 110 to 135 dark beasts, 40 to 60 black dragons, 91 to 150 ankou | Don't: these are fast because they are short |
Smoke devils, dagannoth and blue dragons have no extension to buy. Don't extend anything on your block list.
The Slayer helmet
The helmet gives the black mask's 16.67% melee accuracy and damage bonus on task, and puts the earmuffs, facemask, nose peg and spiny helmet into one head slot. The training page says to prioritise it as soon as possible.
- Black mask. Cave horrors on Mos Le'Harmless drop it at 1/512. They need 58 Slayer, Cabin Fever, a light source and a witchwood icon or Protect from Melee. They are only a weight-4 task at Duradel, so waiting for the task is slow; our walkthrough camps them at 58.
- Malevolent Masquerade for 400 points at any master.
- Combine the mask with the parts below at 55 Crafting, which is boostable. Everything except the mask comes from the Slayer Equipment shop. If you already own a helmet when you finish A Porcine of Interest, the goggles are added for you.
- Imbue for a further 15% Ranged and Magic accuracy and damage: 1,250,000 Nightmare Zone points (625,000 with the hard Combat Achievements), 500 Soul Wars Zeal Tokens, or a scroll of imbuing. Both Nightmare Zone and Soul Wars are on the wiki's list of safe deaths for hardcore ironmen.
Slayer helmet parts
1Black mask × 1 (Cave horrors, 1/512)
1Earmuffs × 1
1Facemask × 1
1Nose peg × 1
1Spiny helmet × 1
1Enchanted gem × 1
1Reinforced goggles × 1 (After A Porcine of Interest)
Combine at 55 Crafting (boostable) after Malevolent Masquerade. An eternal gem cannot replace the enchanted gem.
The bonus doesn't stack with a salve amulet on undead tasks. The salve's 20% beats the helmet's 16.67% on paper, but the wiki points out that a helmet plus a strong amulet such as torture usually out-damages salve plus a weaker helm.
Superior Slayer monsters
Bigger and Badder costs 50 points since August 2025 (it was 150). With it on, killing a monster on task has a 1/200 chance to spawn its superior version, 1/150 after the elite Combat Achievement rewards, and 10% more often in the Wilderness (1/180 base).
A superior gives about ten times its hitpoints in Slayer XP, three rolls on the normal monster's drop table, ten times the clue scroll chance, a guaranteed brimstone key on a Konar task, and a guaranteed dark totem piece in the Catacombs of Kourend. It also has its own unique tables: the imbued heart, the dust battlestaff and the mist battlestaff on one, and the eternal gem on the other. Superiors with a higher Slayer requirement roll those tables more often. The eternal gem turns your Slayer ring into one with unlimited teleports.
Most superiors are passive until you attack them, and they despawn after two minutes if you ignore them. You can toggle the unlock off and on without paying again.
Cannon and burst tasks for XP
The wiki's Ironman Guide says a dwarf multicannon is usually not worth it for iron Slayer because of the time it takes to make steel cannonballs, with the occasional exception of smoke devils. That is also why it says suqah and kalphite, decent tasks on a main, aren't worth doing on an iron: without a cannon they have no drops and mediocre XP.
Bursting is the ironman's fast XP. These are the Ironman Guide's own magic task entries:
| Task | Location | Iron XP per hour (wiki) | Extend? | Bracelet |
|---|
| Greater nechryael | Catacombs of Kourend | 75,000 to 95,000 | Yes | Slaughter |
| Dust devils | Catacombs of Kourend | 65,000 to 85,000 | Yes | Slaughter |
| Smoke devils | Smoke Devil Dungeon | 75,000 to 80,000 without a cannon | No extension exists | Slaughter |
| Dagannoth | Catacombs of Kourend | 55,000 to 80,000 | No extension exists | Slaughter or expeditious |
| Ankou | Catacombs of Kourend | About 60,000 | No | Expeditious |
Abyssal demons are on the Ironman Guide's list at about 52,000 an hour with Magic, but it calls maging them extremely expensive, and they are on the block list above. The wiki's notes on running the others:
- Greater nechryael: lure with darts, run round a corner to stack them, and Ice Barrage. Switch to Blood Barrage when the superior spawns or the death spawns hurt. Bank the rune items. If you are low on herb seeds, melee normal nechryael in the Slayer Tower for about 31,000 XP an hour instead.
- Smoke devils: lure around the western bone pile and barrage the eastern stack every five ticks. Luring with a shortbow beats making cannonballs unless you can hold 160,000 XP an hour or more, and a goading potion keeps them aggressive.
- Dagannoth: the wiki calls barraging them difficult and expensive, but fast once you have practised. Bring one or two stamina potions per task. With melee, pray and stand still.
- Defensive casting: use it on burst tasks unless you only want Magic levels, because it gives more XP overall.
Bursting a task costs thousands of chaos and death runes, which is why the list is built around monsters whose drops replace them. The Ironman Magic guide has the rune costs per cast, the shops that sell them and the Ancient Magicks unlock.
Boss tasks for ironmen
You can already kill these bosses on the matching normal task, with no Like a Boss unlock. The Ironman Guide lists them because their drops are ironman gear:
| Normal task | Boss on task | What an ironman gets |
|---|
| Abyssal demons | Abyssal Sire (85 Slayer) | Unsired for abyssal bludgeon pieces and the abyssal dagger |
| Hydras (Konar or Mortimer) | Alchemical Hydra (95 Slayer) | Hydra's claw for the dragon hunter lance, hydra leather for ferocious gloves, brimstone ring pieces |
| Hellhounds | Cerberus (91 Slayer) | Primordial, pegasian and eternal crystals |
| Black demons | Demonic gorillas (Monkey Madness II) | Zenyte shards, alchables and tree seeds |
| Greater demons | Tormented demons, K'ril Tsutsaroth | Tormented synapse and burning claws; the Zamorakian spear for a hasta |
| Lizardmen | Lizardman shamans | The dragon warhammer |
| Dagannoth | Dagannoth Kings | The rings and the dragon axe |
| Kalphite | Kalphite Queen | Wines of Zamorak and potato cacti |
| Aviansie | Kree'arra | Armadyl armour |
| Spiders | Sarachnis | The Sarachnis cudgel and red spiders' eggs |
| Blue dragons | Vorkath | Money, Prayer and Crafting XP, once you have a dragon hunter weapon |
Konar complicates this, because the location counts too: the Abyssal Sire only counts if she sends you to the Abyss. The Ironman Guide's Cerberus tip is worth copying: keep her above 400 hitpoints for the first 56 seconds in Guthan's, then switch to your best gear, and you can usually skip the ghost phase that drains your prayer potions.
Like a Boss (200 points) lets Konar, Nieve, Duradel and Krystilia assign a boss directly. You pick 3 to 35 kills, up to 65 with Combat Achievement tiers, and get a 5,000 Slayer XP bonus on completion. Duradel weights boss tasks at 12, the others at 8. The Ironman Guide's verdict is mixed: some bosses are quick tasks, some are a slog, and it costs 200 points. The main Ironman Guide suggests unlocking it after Desert Treasure II, when you start learning endgame bosses for the medium and hard Combat Achievements. To stop boss tasks you have to toggle the unlock off, which refunds nothing. Assignable bosses now include the Maggot King (74 Slayer, The Blood Moon Rises) and the Shellbane gryphon (51 Slayer, Troubled Tortugans). See our Maggot King guide and the boss order.
What changed in 2025 and 2026
- 23 July 2025, Varlamore: The Final Dawn. Custodian stalkers (54 Slayer, Shadows of Custodia) became a task from Chaeldar and Nieve. They drop broken antlers for atlatl dart tips and, from the mature and elder variants, the antler guard.
- 27 August 2025, Summer Sweep Up Slayer. Per-master block lists and prices. Bigger and Badder 150 to 50, Ring Bling 300 to 150, Task Storage 1,000 to 500, Slug Salter and Reptile Freezer to 10. All six metal dragons merged into one task of 30 to 50, extendable to 150 to 200 with Pedal to the Metals, now 200 points. Mazchna to 6 points a task and Vannaka to 8. Some noted herb drops became unnoted for the herb sack. The granite hammer got a 30% golembane effect that works on gargoyles.
- 1 October 2025. Any master now cancels for free a task you can no longer complete because of quest or Slayer level requirements.
- 19 November 2025, Sailing. Aquanites (78 Slayer, 73 Sailing, Lured In for 80 points), gryphons (51 Slayer, 45 Sailing, Troubled Tortugans, Wings Spread for 80), frost dragons (87 Sailing) and lava strykewyrms in the Charred Dungeon (60 Sailing), which count as wyrms and drop dragon metal sheets at 1/45 on task instead of 1/115.
- 17 June 2026. Chance of Heavy Frost (100 points) raises frost dragon weight from 5 to 8 at Nieve and Duradel, and I see Dragons (100) extends them to 180 to 240.
- 30 June 2026, The Blood Moon Rises. Venators (74 Slayer) count for vampyre tasks, and the Maggot King became a boss task.
- 22 July 2026, Summer Sweep-Up Gear & PvM. Demonic gorillas no longer swap prayers until you have hit them at least four times and dealt at least 70 damage with one style.
- 29 July 2026, Wyrmscraig. Mortimer, the tenth master. Wyrmscraig Cavern has five wyrms you can cannon and three lava strykewyrms, and Konar can send you there for wyrms and trolls. Slayer rings teleport to the cavern after Fallen From Grace.
HCIM notes and Wilderness Slayer
Krystilia has no combat requirement, gives 25 points a task (the highest base rate of any master) and her monsters can drop Larran's keys for Larran's big chest. The Ironman Guide also points to the Wilderness Slayer Cave's higher drop rates, the looting bag, and blighted food, restores and rune sacks, which help an iron's supply problem. Changing one of her tasks at Turael only resets your Wilderness streak, which the wiki suggests for irons fishing for revenant tasks or Wilderness bosses for voidwaker pieces.
For a hardcore ironman, the risk is plain:
- Every Krystilia task is in the Wilderness, and only kills inside it count. PKers can attack you anywhere there, and she can assign monsters of any combat level regardless of yours.
- A Wilderness death is not a safe death. The wiki's list of HCIM safe deaths doesn't include it, so dying to a PKer or a monster there ends your hardcore status.
- A ring of life is only a partial safety net. It works up to level 30 Wilderness, but Tele Block stops it, and it won't save you from one hit that takes you from above 10% hitpoints to zero.
- Boss tasks can send you there too. With Like a Boss, Konar, Nieve and Duradel can all assign Wilderness bosses such as Callisto, Venenatis and Vet'ion. Konar does so even though her normal tasks never send you into the Wilderness. Skip them for 30 points or at Turael.
If you take Krystilia tasks anyway, follow the wiki's own rules: take nothing you can't afford to lose, turn on PK Skull Prevention so you can't be skull-tricked, and have 43 Prayer for protection prayers. Outside the Wilderness, the Ironman Guide's one HCIM Slayer tip is a ring of life on tasks where a disconnect could kill you. Our Hardcore Ironman guide covers the rest.
Suggested path
| Stage | Master | Focus |
|---|
| 1 to 9 Slayer | None | Natural history quiz for 1,000 XP; A Porcine of Interest for 1,000 XP and 30 points |
| 40 to 75 combat | Turael, with every 10th task at Vannaka, then Chaeldar | Bank points; block Turael's slowest tasks for 40 each |
| 58 Slayer | Off task | Camp cave horrors for a black mask; buy Bigger and Badder and Malevolent Masquerade |
| 75 combat | Turael, with every 10th task at Konar | Brimstone keys; Ring Bling; Broader Fletching if you range |
| 85 combat | Nieve, with every 10th at Konar | The wiki suggests starting efficient Slayer at 80 to 90 combat. Build Nieve's block list, starting with the Ironman Guide's first blocks: suqah, kalphite, black demons and hellhounds |
| 85 Slayer | Nieve or Duradel | Abyssal demons until you have your whip |
| 100 combat, 50 Slayer, Shilo Village | Duradel, with every 10th at Konar | Rebuild your seven blocks at Duradel; extend nechryael and dust devils; burst |
| 87 to 95 Slayer | Duradel, Konar for hydras | Kraken, Cerberus, Araxxor, smoke devils, Alchemical Hydra; unblock hellhounds when you want Cerberus |
For efficient Slayer, the Ironman Guide recommends starting at 80 to 90 combat with reasonable gear, and these stats:
